Mentoring new directors is one of the primary objectives of the
organization. Our members can provide support with:
- understanding compliance with BVNPT rules and regulations
- curriculum development
- student or clinical facility issues
- a novice in the position of Director of a Vocational Nursing
Program
- information related to a particular location of a program, student
population, or academic environment
Experience to count on
The organization has numerous highly experienced and well-seasoned
directors. Many directors have comprehensive experience as Registered
Nurses and as Nurse Educators. In addition to administrative and/or
instructor duties of student vocational nurses, many program directors
also have responsibilities that include various allied health courses
such as Certified Nurse Aides, Administrative/Clinical Medical
Assistants, or Emergency Medical Technicians.
Wide Geographical Base
Members of the ACDVNP span a geographical range that consists of half
of the State of California. Programs and schools that are represented
include the highly impacted, urban coastal areas of San Diego, Orange,
and Los Angeles Counties. Riverside, San Bernardino and Kern Counties
expand the geographical areas of Vocational Nursing Programs into urban,
rural, and desert area schools.
Diversity
Cultural and ethnical diversity is the norm within Programs in the
Southern California. The diversity of the membership adds to the overall
strength of the mentoring capabilities of the ACDVNP.
Support
Directors of ACDVNP can provide support and/or references to other
members. A Director of a Vocational Nursing Program, who mentors, can
provide support and guidance for a wide assortment of queries. Mentoring
can provide information regarding instructor resources, choices in
textbooks, classroom supplies, and skills lab equipment. Many members of
ACDVNP are considered to be highly experienced in the field of
curriculum development for Vocational Nursing Programs.
Some individual Programs or schools provide NCLEX-PN review classes
that are open to students of all Vocational Nursing Programs. A few
schools may be able to provide prerequisite courses in teaching or
curriculum development, which are requirements for theory and clinical
instructors of Vocational Nursing Programs. ACDVNP members often
advertise employment opportunities for theory and clinical instructors.
New Directors can assist their own instructional faculty with
information gained at ACDVNP meetings regarding basic test-writing using
NCLEX-PN format (www.ncsbn.org) and
test taking skills for students. Stress management techniques are
commonly needed by student nurses and mentors can provide numerous
suggestions to decrease stress within the nursing departments or for
individual students.
